Watterson had to leave New York unexpectedly and owes Vanderhoof dinner. He has work he has to see through and cannot afford to "run off to Europe" and leave his "business to go to the dogs." On letterhead of the Jule Davis House, Ames, Iowa. Above letterhead Watterson has written "En Route to."
